Sámi museum and cultural history collection in Karasjok
Sámiid Vuorká-Dávvirat, known in English as The Sámi Collections, is one of the most important cultural history destinations in Karasjok. The museum was established in 1972 as the first Sámi cultural institution in Norway and is managed today by RiddoDuottarMuseat. A visit here adds depth to your journey through Sápmi. The collections place traditional crafts, everyday life, art, objects and community life in a broader context. It is a place where you can move from the beautiful and tangible — such as tools and handicrafts — to larger questions about language, identity, landscape and history. The museum suits anyone who wants to understand Karasjok better than a quick photo stop allows. Please note that the main museum is relocating from October 28, 2025, while the open-air museum has its own summer opening hours. Always check with RDM before your visit.
