From Bugøynes, the tour departs across Varangerfjorden and the Barents Sea by RIB boat. Along the way, the local guide shares stories about the Russian king crab, its spread along the Norwegian coast, and the history of Bugøynes and the fjord. Together you check the traps and sort the day's catch. King crabs grow large, and those you catch typically weigh between two and five kilos. If you are lucky, you may also spot whales, seals, and sea eagles—every tour is different. After the safari, a meal made from your own king crab is served at Bugøynes Bistro, prepared in the traditional way. Wetsuits are provided to all, and the tour is weather dependent; in poor weather conditions, a visit to the crab factory with a king crab lunch is offered instead.
