Esbensengården
Spisesteder med historie fra Vadsøs gylne handelstid
About Esbensengården
Esbensengården bears witness to Vadsø's past as a trading center in the Arctic. The house from 1848 was built by merchant Rasmus Galberg Esbensen, who operated a fish and general merchandise trade and maintained extensive connections with Russian pomor sailors. The original wooden building made of Siberian larch with its intact interior from the late 19th century offers a rare glimpse into how a prosperous merchant family lived and worked. From the restaurant here you can enjoy meals in rooms that have remained unchanged since the days when trade flourished along the quays. Esbensengården is more than just food – it is an encounter with Vadsø's maritime history, Kven immigration, and northern Norwegian commerce from another era.
