Being a teacher is like being a stand-up comedian, psychologist, child educator and lecturer all at once. Everything must be learned, not least the love you develop for your students. If learning is meeting yourself, and understanding is standing before another person, what does responsibility for your own learning actually mean?

The newly hired substitute teacher Kristian stands before a fifth-grade class, a cross-section of society, filled with needs, expectations and dreams. But in secret he carries around a constant inner dissolution. Meeting the ten-year-olds forces him to confront his own inner child, the teacher role and the system around him.

Slam poet and actor Fredrik Høyer is one of contemporary theater's most original voices. He performs the role of substitute teacher Kristian with closeness and razor-sharp humor, in a deeply probing text about how we understand ourselves through others' perspectives and the roles we play in each other's lives. In a surprising way, the gray and everyday is transformed into a mythical journey that concerns both you and me.
