Hamsun, Figenschow and Knut Nærum unite in a kitchen. Touring throughout Troms and Finnmark, with excursions to Nordland, autumn 2026.

Kristian Fr. Figenschow mirrors Hamsun's The Growth of the Soil in North Norwegian storytelling tradition and theatre history.

From the kitchen corner, humorist Kristian juggles his own interpretation of Hamsun's Nobel Prize-winning novel with anecdotes, readings and stories. Armed only with whatever kitchen utensils he has at hand.

In addition to characters from The Growth of the Soil, we meet figures brought to life by the storytellers who came after Hamsun: Zapffe, Dybwad, Arntzen and others.

Knut Nærum was asked to write a play for Kristian Figenschow based on The Growth of the Soil. As Kristian celebrated and worked with the text, he discovered that this book is the beginning of North Norwegian storytelling tradition! And that is not all – he saw that Hamsun's masterpiece also mirrors the pioneering work carried out during the establishment of Hålogaland Theatre! An actor in top form thus brings forth important parts of our history in this humorous and entertaining production.
