Nobel Prize winner Jon Fosse's beautiful and poetic text comes to life on stage when we receive a visit from Hålogaland Theatre.

She stands alone. Left behind. Lonely in her longing. In yearning for the one who never came back. No coffin, no grave to visit. Abandoned in the house where she shared a life with him who is no longer there.

In the play Det er Ales we meet Signe in the emptiness that still exists 23 years after her husband did not come home from the sea. The house overlooks the fjord where her beloved disappeared.

The sea gives and the sea takes is a cliché, but this has been the reality for so many people along the Norwegian coast, especially in the north. The women have been left standing. Alone.

We follow Signe's longing, thoughts and questions in a rhythmic journey through the times and generations that have lived and been lost in the rooms she now stands alone in.

The production brings people, music and film to the delicate text. And central to the story is the question of how it is possible to continue living with such a loss. It can be said to be a comfort to us all.
