# Aldontoppen — Where the Sacred Meets the Modern Just 171 meters high, but this mountain on the east side of Meskelva is so much more than its height suggests. From the summit, Varangerfjorden spreads out before you in full splendor, and the view over this ancient cultural site is spectacular. The truly magical part? The small reindeer figures carved into the rock — perhaps 2000 years old. Two stylized figures measuring only 25 and 30 centimeters, witnesses from a time when people made sacrifices here. «Álda» means sacrifice site in Sami, and the place's power shone brightly well into the 1700s and 1800s. A short trip to a place where prehistory and fjord landscape meet.
