# Birds and adventures at Høyholmen Tanamunningen nature reserve is a hidden gem for birdwatchers. Here at the mouth of Tanaelva where the river meets the sea — and since 2002 the area has been important enough to receive Ramsar status for its migratory birds. Høyholmen is an excellent place to experience birdlife. Just 3 km from the main road (fv 890) you'll find vehicle access. Although it's not a classically marked trail, a walk along the road and along the shore rewards you with several kilometers through incredible nature. **Important:** Watch out for tidal flats and rising water levels! Bonus: Nearby lies Stangnestind (724 m) — Varangerhalvøya's highest peak — and Norway's longest sandy beach stretches 13 kilometers from Leirpollnes to Rødberget.
