# Øfas Chapel Smelror — Vardø's Hidden Gem Vardø now offers 11 fantastic routes, and this one you must experience! From Øfas at Svartnes you follow the old road through cottage areas and over Storelva, before you cross highway 341 and continue down Smelrorveien to Løkvika. Around 8 kilometers round trip awaits you. What makes this route special? The stone chapel at Smelror — a unique structure created by one man's dedication. Ingolf Klyde spent three summer holidays building this chapel from scratch, using stone from old fence corners. The bell previously hung in a convent, while the Christ figure was found at an antique market. **Important:** The last 400 meters are not wheelchair accessible.
